The Product
For the uninitiated, Alizé is the world's first patented market umbrella with built-in brushless DC fans. It delivers over 4,000 CFM of airflow directly beneath the canopy — no floor fans, no misting systems, no cords running across your patio. Just shade and a real breeze at the touch of a button.
The concept is simple. The engineering took a while.
What a Year in Market Actually Teaches You
We've been in market for over a year now, and I'll be honest — it has been the most educational year of my career.
I've designed a lot of products. But umbrellas are unlike anything I've worked on before. Here's what surprised me most:
Packaging matters more than you think. This sounds obvious until you're watching a customer try to unbox something in a parking lot and you realize the whole first impression of your product happens before they've even seen it. We've redesigned our packaging.
Real-world use is never what you imagine. You can prototype and test and stress-test all you want, but customers will always find a way to interact with your product that you never anticipated. We learned a lot watching how people actually set up, use, and store the Alizé. It changed how we thought about assembly.
Umbrellas are a fashion statement. Of all the products I've designed, this one surprised me most in this regard. People don't just buy the function — they buy the look. An umbrella is often the centerpiece of an outdoor space, and aesthetics drive purchase decisions as much as performance does. That insight rewired how we approached the next generation.
What's Next
We've taken everything we learned and put it into the next version of Alizé.
We completely rewired the internal architecture to simplify assembly. We rethought the aesthetics from the ground up. And we've refined the details that customers actually notice — the things that separate a good product from a great one.
Samples are heading out now to retailers who've already requested them. That part never gets old.
